5 HVAC Problems and How To Prevent Them

Anyone who has experienced a Sioux City summer knows just how hot it can get and how much better life is when your A/C is working properly. Air conditioning units are complicated pieces of equipment, but you might be surprised that most problems can be prevented with preventative maintenance and TLC. Here’s how to keep your house cool all summer long with these simple tips.

1. Replace your filters

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again. Replacing your air filters is so important for the upkeep on your HVAC system. Not replacing your filter is one of the biggest reasons for failure. It’s easiest to buy your filters in bulk and set a reminder on your calendar, or your programmable thermostat if you have one. Know that this simple 5 minute HVAC maintenance will help prolong the life of your unit. Learn how often to change your filter here.

2. Check for leaks

Leaks are never a good sign. Clogged drain lines are due to dust and debris that accumulate overtime. It’s best if this issue is taken care of early, rather than waiting for it to get worse. This could lead to serious water damage.

3. Don’t set your thermostat too low

When you’re overheating, try to set your A/C at a middle-ground temperature. Your air conditioner can only do so much and lowering the temperature super low will only make it run longer and harder than it needs to. Adjusting your thermostat within a few degrees is much easier on your system and your wallet.

4. Watch out for tripped breakers

If your air conditioner continues to trip your breakers this is a sign that something isn’t right. Instead of just flipping it back on, give us a call to have it inspected. This can be an issue with the breaker or lose wire, or it could be something much worse. Either way, it’s definitely worth getting it checked out for peace of mind.

5. Don’t forget ongoing maintenance

Your HVAC system is an investment that increases your home’s value and efficiency, as well as your health and comfort. It only makes sense that you want to protect that investment. Our Comfort and Convenience maintenance plan makes it convenient for you to take care of your system, ensuring your family’s comfort. The longer your equipment is neglected the more expensive the repairs will be, and replacement may be a result for that matter. Issues are best caught when they are small, which is why we recommend yearly maintenance on your heating and cooling system. Learn more about the benefits and features of our maintenance plan here and leave the scheduling and maintenance to us!
