Are you Ready for the Fall HVAC Season?

Pretty soon the leaves will be changing, the temperature will be dropping, and football will be on. These are signs that fall is right around the corner. We know you’re more than ready for football season. But, are you ready for the fall HVAC season? Last thing you want is your furnace breaking mid-game during your Saturday or Sunday football party. Fall is the perfect time to get your system prepared for winter so you don’t discover your furnace isn’t working before it’s too late. Plus, it’s better to catch it now during 70 degree weather than when it’s 30 degrees in the midst of winter. Here are some helpful tips so you can get your HVAC system ready.

Change Your Filters

Dirty air filters are less than ideal for your HVAC system. Followed by dirty air filters are many issues, and the longer they aren’t changed the bigger the issues become. The energy efficiency of your system can suffer which in turn raises your heating bill. Your air filters should be changed every 30-60 days depending on your system and type of filter you have. It’s also important to consistently change your filter throughout the winter months to keep your HVAC system working properly all winter long. Learn more about air filters here.

Check and Clean Your Outdoor Unit

Properly cleaning the dirt and debris from your outdoor unit is very important for your system. When cleaning your unit, make sure that the fan and grate are free from all debris. Let the HVAC professionals handle this for you, so you don’t run into any electrical issues. And, if you notice that your AC unit has been dented or damaged be sure to give us a call to inspect the fan and overall unit.

Install a Programmable Thermostat

Once fall arrives, it’s the perfect time to install a programmable thermostat. Temperatures tend to fluctuate a lot more during the fall season, so a programmable thermostat helps to keep your house at a comfortable temperature no matter the outdoor weather. Check Your Registers

The registers in your home serve a very important role. Your registers are the endpoints of your air duct system. They provide the heat into each and every room. If they are full of dirt, dust, and other debris both the air quality and efficiency of your system will be affected. Making sure they are clean is a must before the winter months when your furnace gets used the most. This will keep you breathing clean air and make sure your HVAC system is running efficiently.

Consider Adding Insulation

If you can feel a draft by your windows, doors, or other places throughout your home consider installing additional insulation. You would be surprised how much money you will save overtime when properly insulating your home. Another common place to add insulation is your attic. By making these adjustments your energy bills will decrease and your energy efficiency will increase.
