Your air filters should be replaced every 1-3 months depending on usage and other variables. This is very important for the performance of your HVAC systems and your indoor air quality.

Your IAQ is so important for your health. It can be as much as 100 times worse than the outdoor air. There can be pollutants, dust, allergens, and mildew circulating your home affecting our wellbeing and health. Reducing and removing these bacteria and viruses is vitally important to your family and home.

When your air conditioner freezes up, either inside or at your outdoor unit, this is a big issue. This can cause serious damage if it isn’t taken care of promptly. The two main issues could be you are low on refrigerant charge or there is low air flow. It’s best to have a certified service technician diagnose the problem and take care of it correctly.

It can be a difficult decision deciding if you should invest in a new, efficient HVAC system or pour more money into your aging HVAC unit. If your AC is not completely broken, here are a few things to consider: energy costs, return on investment, your AC is very noisy, and it breaks down frequently.

It’s important to note that you shouldn’t attempt to fix your noisy air conditioner. A certified service technician knows the electrical system layouts and proper meters to test all the components of your AC. There could be multiple issues with your system when it’s too noisy. It’s incredibly important to have an HVAC tech handle this for you before it gets worse.

Saving money on your electric bill is always ideal in the summer. It’s best practice to set your thermostat to 72 degrees with the fan set on auto rather than on. 72 degrees is the most comfortable for the majority of people. The higher you raise your thermostat the more money you’ll save.

There can be many reasons why your air conditioner is blowing warm air. It’s best to get the help of a HVAC technician to diagnose your system. Here are a few reasons your ac is not blowing cold air: you lost power to the outdoor unit, your system is low on refrigerant, or the evaporator coils might be dirty.

Yes, this is not normal for your furnace to be clicking and making odd noises. This can be caused by a variety of reasons: bearings, inducer, flame sensor, pilot light, ignitor, or gas supply. If you keep hearing this noise it is time to call an HVAC professional to have them diagnose and fix this issue for you.

On average, HVAC systems usually last 15 to 20 years. The older your system gets, the less efficient it becomes and the worse it performs. Modern HVAC systems will save you money on your energy bills because they are more efficient.

Proper air filtration is crucial to the health of your family and HVAC system. Filters prevent bacteria, dust, and other particles from building up in your system and recirculating throughout your home. High-efficiency filters do an even better job of this, and help those that suffer from allergies. The most important part is to change them regularly. You can even order them on subscription from our filter shop!

One thing you can do is to prevent unwanted air from getting into your home. You can do this by sealing your duct system, doors, and windows. Then you can focus on improving your IAQ by installing an air purifier and high-efficiency air filtration system.

Your furnace smells because dust has accumulated on the heat exchanger inside the furnace. The smell is the dust being burnt off.

Yes, set your fan counterclockwise for summer months to help blow cooler air down, and clockwise in winter months at a low speed to help circulate air upwards.

Properly programmed thermostats can save you money on your utility bills and eliminate continual manual adjustments. Some models such as the iComfort and Honeywell let you set your home’s temperature from anywhere in the world, using a smartphone, tablet, or laptop!

There are many reasons, but here are some reasons why your heating and cooling are costing you.

  • Your home is not properly insulated. You have may have poor windows, wall, and roof insulation. All of these prevent your home from blocking out the heat and cold from outside your home. A house that is not well insulated will always be more difficult to heat in the winter and cool in the summer.
  • Your filter is dirty and not changed often enough. A dirty filter restricts airflow and causes your unit to run harder and in turn use more energy.
  • Your system is old and inefficient. New systems are simply more efficient and use less energy to operate than old systems.
  • You have an oversized unit that is too big for your home. The unit will come on and cool the house rapidly while drawing a lot of power and then shut off for a short while. This process will continue throughout the day.
  • You adjust your thermostat too often throughout the day. Increasing and decreasing the temperature throughout the day while at home causes a great loss in energy efficiency. Your air conditioning unit functions best when it is left in one setting. This allows it to cycle properly and runs at maximum efficiency.

Normal cooling settings are 70 degrees – 75 degrees

Normal heating settings are 68 degrees – 72 degrees

You should always set your thermostat to the highest possible setting that is comfortable for you in the summer, and the lowest comfortable setting in the winter. Doing this will maximize your energy savings as on average every one degree of temperature change is equal to about 10% of energy savings.

BTUH stands for British Thermal Unit Hours. It’s a simple measurement of heat. One BTU represents the quantity of heat necessary to raise one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit.

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It is an energy efficiency rating for air conditioning units. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient a unit is.

AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. The AFUE number represents how efficiently a furnace converts fuel to energy. The higher the AFUE percentage, the more energy-efficient or fuel-efficient a furnace is. The US government established a minimum AFUE rating for a furnace to be 78%.

Covering your air conditioner will eventually lead to issues such as mold and rust.It is made to withstand the snow, so a cover is not needed for protection.

However, it may be necessary in the fall if you have a lot of trees near your unit. This will help to avoid leaves, twigs, and other debris from entering the unit.

Residential Cooling

Having attic insulation can help keep costs down, control moisture, and prevent the accumulation of mold and mildew.

This allows for maximum comfort control, decreased energy bills, and higher energy efficiency.

Some best practices are to keep your vents open and don’t block them to ensure proper air flow, install black out curtains to block out the sun, and add more insulation to keep the cool air in.
